Launching a redesigned website requires more than just a fresh visual appearance. From user experience and SEO performance to website speed, accessibility, security, and analytics tracking, every detail needs to be carefully reviewed before going live.
This checklist covers 20 essential steps to ensure your redesigned website is technically optimized, user-friendly, search engine ready, and prepared to deliver the best experience for visitors.
1. Cross-Browser Consistency: Test the layout on Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge to ensure layout grids, fonts, and SVGs render consistently.
2. Broken Links & Media: Run a site crawler to catch dead internal links, broken images, or missing video embeds before going live.
3. Form Validation & Endpoints: Test every contact form, newsletter signup, and login screen. Verify that submission data reaches your CRM and auto-responder emails trigger correctly.
4. Error Handling (404 Page): Ensure a custom, helpful 404 page is live with clear navigation options back to primary pages.
UX & Visual Design
5. 301 Redirect Mapping: Map every old URL to its corresponding new URL. Failing to implement 301 redirects is the fast track to losing existing search rankings.
6. Meta Titles & Descriptions: Verify that every production page has unique, optimized title tags and meta descriptions instead of generic placeholder text.
7. Dynamic XML Sitemap: Generate and submit an updated XML sitemap to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
8. Robots.txt Configuration: Remove the Disallow: / tag used in staging so search engine crawlers can index your live production site.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
9. Asset Compression: Compress all images using modern formats (WebP or AVIF) and lazy-load offscreen media assets.
10. Code Minification: Bundle, minify, and purge unused CSS and JavaScript files to reduce initial payload sizes.
11. Core Web Vitals: Audit your live staging environment on Google PageSpeed Insights to hit healthy LCP (Largest Contentful Paint), CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift), and INP (Interaction to Next Paint) scores.
12. CDN & Caching Rules: Configure your Content Delivery Network (CDN) and HTTP caching headers to serve static assets rapidly to global users.
Performance & Optimization
13. Color Contrast Ratios: Audit text and UI elements against WCAG guidelines (minimum 4.5:1 ratio for normal text) to ensure readability.
14. Keyboard Navigation: Tab through the entire site to verify that focus indicators are visible and interactive elements (buttons, modals, dropdowns) work without a mouse.
15. Image Alt Text: Ensure all informative images have descriptive alt tags and purely decorative images use empty alt="" attributes.
Accessibility (a11y)
16. Fluid Breakpoints: Test layout responsiveness across diverse viewports (mobile, tablet, desktop, ultra-wide) rather than relying solely on fixed breakpoints.
17. Touch Target Sizes: Ensure buttons, links, and form inputs meet minimum touch dimensions (at least 44x44 pixels) with adequate tap spacing.
Responsive & Mobile Design
18. SSL/TLS Certificate: Verify that your HTTPS certificate is active, auto-renewing, and forcing non-HTTP traffic seamlessly over secure connections.
Security & Infrastructure
19. Analytics Script Verification: Confirm that tracking tags (Google Analytics 4, Meta Pixel, or custom event scripts) trigger correctly on live pages.
20. Conversion Event Tracking: Test custom goal conversions, button click events, and e-commerce tracking in a real-time debugging console to verify data flow.
